Description
This painting was initially banned from an exhibit because it was thought (I assume by the title) to be sexual in nature. The name of the painting must have conjured up depraved images in the gallery manager's head. However, on review it was deemed to be suitably puritanical to be viewed by the public.
It is more a wall sculpture than a painting. Two surfaces are an inch apart. A hole is cut in the top surface. A black mirror on the bottom surface can be seen through the hole. The mirror was created by pouring black enamel into a puddle on the surface below and letting it dry for several days. The round concave mirror above it acts as foil to the black hole.
A photograph does not really do this painting/sculptor justice. When the painting has appeared in exhibits, the gallery owners are not quite sure how to cope with it - since most of my other paintings used to be landscapes.
I spent many nights thinking about how I would do this painting. It was a breakthrough painting for me. It liberate my thinking as to what creating painted images was all about. It is nice to be in a position that I can paint whatever captures my imagination without worrying about mouths to feed.
The painting usually attracts a crowd around it when it is exhibited. It is unusual. It is sensual and very textured.
